Abubakar Yakubu (PhD, FCA, MFR)
Abubakar is a seasoned professional with over three (3) decades of experience in finance, accounting, administration, corporate governance, project management and telecommunication regulation. He served with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) where he grew through the ranks serving across various functional departments and zones, including as Director, Projects and Director, Policy, Competition & Economic Analysis where he championed several reforms. Prior to this, he served as a Manager, Consultancy Services with V.O Akinmoluwa & Co. Chartered Accountants leveraging his expertise in accounting, feasibility & economic studies, tax planning, administration and market analysis. He also served as Accountant at National Commission for Museums and Monuments and Budget Officer at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
Abubakar was a member of the Presidential Committee on the implementation of Needs Assessment for the Nigerian Universities, Chairman of the industry working group for the development of the framework for the implementation of National Roaming and Active Infrastructure Sharing in the country, and played a pivotal role in the implementation and activation of Emergency Communication Centers (ECCs) across the country, thus, the provision of 112 emergency services in Nigeria. It was in recognition of his tremendous contribution to the telecommunication industry and the country at large that he was conferred a national honour of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR).
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Management Sciences from University of Jos, a Masters in Business Administration with Distinction in Engineering Management from Coventry University – School of Engineering, United Kingdom and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Business Administration from Nasarawa State University. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Institute of Public Accountants of Australia (IPA) and Institute of Management Consultants of Nigeria (IMCN), amongst others.
Abubakar has won several awards locally and internationally, including the best overall performance in the Engineering Management stream of the School of Engineering – Coventry University and British Chevening Scholarship by the British Government. He is an alumnus of the Economic Development Institute of the World Bank, Lagos Business School, Borough College London, Public Utility Research Center – University of Florida and International Law Institute – Washington DC.
He serves in several Boards as Member and Chairman.
